ACS welcomes new member
|
ACS would like to welcome our newest member, the Saskatchewan Canola Growers Association (SCGA).
The SCGA is a member-based, nonprofit organization that began in 1969 as a small group of concerned growers. They provide a strong, effective voice to governments and industry in order to direct the future of agriculture.
The objectives of the SCGA include:
- serving producers by "monitoring" all facets of the industry to ensure their best interests;
- acting as a liaison between growers and other canola industry stakeholders on policy related issues;
- and helping to provide the latest agronomic and marketing information on canola and it's quality products.
If your organization is interested in becoming an ACS member, please go to our membership page or call us at (306) 975-6847 or 1-800-641-8256.

| Learning the science of agriculture
|
June of 2009 saw the opening of Richard Ag-grow-land, a new permanent exhibit at the Saskatchewan Science Centre showcasing agriculture in Saskatchewan.
After years of planning and support from many in Saskatchewan's agriculture and agri-food sector, including Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada who provided adaptation funding through the Agriculture Council of Saskatchewan, the exhibit opened to the public. Richardson Ag-grow-land highlights current farm practices, celebrates the science and cutting edge tools of modern day agriculture in Saskatchewan, and demonstrates the influence that Saskatchewan's agriculture industry has around the world.
The exhibit features the Saskatchewan Science Centre mascot, Discovery Jones, and his dog, Tungsten, who take Science Centre visitors on a tour of the agriculture industry in Saskatchewan. From driving a combine to shipping lentils to India, this interactive exhibit shows how high-tech agriculture has become.

| ACS looking for
mentors and protégés
|
The AMI, which is being run by
ACS under the guidance of the Business Mentorship Institute
of Saskatchewan Inc. (BMI), will match entrepreneurs with
experienced business owners, establishing a relationship whereby the
protégé will learn from the mentor's experience and industry
knowledge. Applications from prospective protégés and mentors are now
being accepted by ACS.
The pilot initiative will match protégés and mentors. Owners of
non-competing businesses will be matched to ensure a beneficial and
cooperative relationship forms between the protégé and mentor.
Once each protégé and mentor are matched, they will be given training
by BMI, which will provide the tools and structure for both the
mentor and protégé that will guide them through the process and allow
them to build a successful relationship. Currently six people are
participating in the program and are finding it to be an
excellent experience.
Please check out the AMI page on the ACS
website to download application forms and learn more about the
program. You may also contact Bev Magill at 975-8928 or magillb@agcouncil.ca.
